Printing a report for a parent
Print the same progress report a family sees, what it shows, and how your own name replaces ours on it.
Printing a report
-
Open the student
From your student list, click the student. Print report sits at the top of their page, alongside Invite a parent and Get a join code.
-
Press it and wait a moment
The report is built from the practice that has reached your account, then your browser's print dialogue opens by itself. Most browsers offer a Save as PDF destination in that same dialogue, which is what you want if you are emailing it rather than handing over paper.
-
Print or save, then close the dialogue
Only the report prints — none of the console around it, no menus, no student list. When you close the dialogue the report disappears from the screen again. Nothing is stored, emailed or shared by pressing the button; whether the parent ever sees it is entirely your decision.
Reading what the report says
The top of the page carries the child's first name and today's date, under either your own business name or logo, or — if you have not set up branding — the child's own name.
Then three figures, taken from everything that student has ever answered: overall accuracy, tests completed, and their English and Maths accuracy side by side. These are the same numbers the child sees on their own screen and a parent sees in the portal, worked out the same way, so the printed page can never quietly contradict either of them.
Below that:
| Panel | What is in it |
|---|---|
| Accuracy over time | Their last 20 tests, oldest to newest, with the dates. A round mark is ordinary practice; a diamond is a mock exam. |
| Your superpowers | Up to three topics they are scoring 80% or better on. If nothing qualifies yet, the panel says so kindly rather than sitting empty. |
| Needs a little focus | Up to three topics under 60%. A topic only appears in either panel once it has at least three answers behind it, so one unlucky question can never put a topic on this list. |
| Worth a second look | Up to five of the questions they most recently got wrong, each with the correct answer, and the paper and question number where it came from one. |
The page closes with a line saying that "Needs a little focus" is not a grade, it just shows where a bit more practice will help most. That line is on the page for the parent, and it is worth saying out loud as well.
Nothing else of yours appears on the page. Your tutor notes are never printed on it, and neither are group names — a group is your own bookkeeping and is never shown to a family.
Why a new student's report is short
A student with fewer than two completed tests gets a different, much shorter page. It is headed Just getting started, names the child, says how many tests they have done so far, and says that once there are a couple more the page will show the accuracy trend, strengths and a few questions worth revisiting.
The same restraint runs through the full report. If no topic is under 60%, Needs a little focus says nothing is flagged rather than promoting the lowest topic to fill the space, and if there is nothing to revisit, Worth a second look says so.
Putting your own name and logo on it
Open Branding from the top bar of your student list. Four fields there change what a parent is handed — the full detail, including what a logo and a colour have to satisfy, is in Your branding, and your own web address.
| Field | What it does to the report |
|---|---|
| Business name | Printed as a small line at the top, above "Progress Report", in place of the child's name. |
| Logo | Replaces that line entirely. PNG, JPEG or WebP, under 750KB and up to 2000 × 2000 pixels. |
| Accent colour | Colours the heading and the trend line. A colour too pale to read against white is turned down, so you cannot accidentally ship a report nobody can see. |
| Contact email and Contact phone | Not printed on the report. They are held for what goes out to parents by email. |
An unbranded report carries the line "Printed from Strivli SEAG Practice." in the footnote. Once you have saved anything on the Branding screen, that line stops appearing — pressing Save stores the colour shown in the picker, so a save counts as branding even if you only changed your business name. The report a parent receives then has your name on it and nothing else's.
The same settings paint the child's own app, the parent portal and the invitations you send, so what a family sees on screen and what they are handed on paper match.
Branding belongs to whoever set the account up. If you were added to somebody else's business you will see a permission message on that screen instead of the form — ask the account owner to make the change.
Handing it to a parent
Every heading on the page is written to be read by the child it is about, because sooner or later one of them will be. "Needs a little focus" is the strongest thing the report will ever say about a topic, and it is deliberate. It is worth keeping that framing when you talk the parent through it: the report names where the next bit of work goes, not what is wrong with their child.
Two topics are usually enough to talk about. A parent who leaves with a specific thing to expect — "we're on fractions for the next fortnight, and you'll see that panel change" — has been given more than a parent who leaves with a percentage.
Questions people ask
- Can I email the report from the console?
- No — there is no send button, on purpose. Choose Save as PDF in the print dialogue and attach it yourself, so the covering note is yours and you know exactly who received it.
- Do my worked methods print on it?
- Not on the copy you print from your console. Worth a second look prints each question and its correct answer from the common library; your own worked methods, and questions you wrote yourself, live in the pack that goes out to your students' devices, so they appear on a report printed from the child's own app. If a question one of your students got wrong is missing from the list, that is usually why.
- How far back does the report go?
- The figures cover up to the last 200 tests recorded for that student, which for almost everyone is everything they have ever done. The trend chart shows the most recent 20 so the line stays readable.
- The button has gone after I printed once.
- Go back to All students and open the student again, and it is there. You can print as many copies as you like.
- Can a parent print it themselves?
- Not from the portal, which has no print button. They can print it from their child's own device, using the Print report button on the Your scorecard screen.
- Does the report say which of the questions came from real papers?
- Only in Worth a second look, where a question read out of a past paper is printed with the paper's name and its question number underneath. There is nothing anywhere else on the page about where a question came from.
